M2 High-Speed Steel (HSS) is the standard industrial alloy for general-purpose drilling in mild steels, iron, and soft metals. M35 Cobalt contains 5% cobalt alloy, which dramatically increases red hardness and heat resistance. M35 is recommended for stainless steel, high-tensile alloys, and hard materials that quickly destroy standard HSS edges.
A 118° point is suitable for soft metals and general wood or plastic applications. A 135° split point features four cutting edges that self-center immediately upon contact, preventing bit walking and requiring significantly less downward force, which is critical when drilling hard metals or using hand-held drills.
